A parts store will read your code for free. That number tells you which circuit is unhappy, not which part failed — and the difference between those two is the whole repair bill.
Every month somebody arrives here having already bought the part the internet said their code meant, but it did not fix the issue. A code like P0171 means the engine is running lean. It does not tell you whether that is a vacuum leak, a dirty mass airflow sensor, a weak fuel pump or a failing oxygen sensor. Verifying failures eliminates replacing unnecessary components.

I brought my car in for major repairs. Michael explained the work that was needed. Then kept me updated as the repairs proceeded. It is so refreshing to deal with an honest company that does excellent work. I would highly recommend them to anyone. And I won't take my car anywhere else.
They were incredibly kind, honest, and easy to work with from start to finish. My car needed a lot of work, and they handled everything quickly while keeping me in the loop the whole time. I never felt rushed or talked down to, which goes a… read the rest on Google
I appreciated the upfront pricing and honesty regarding what needed to be evaluated on my car. Their prices are competitive and service was done in a timely fashion.

Our diagnosis is $10 off with the coupon and it is a real procedure: a full computer scan for stored and pending codes across every module, live data analysis while the engine runs, and pinpoint testing of the specific circuit or component the data implicates. You get the 32 point courtesy inspection with it.
What you get at the end is a specific answer — this part, this circuit, this much — and a repair covered for 48 months. What you get from a free code read at a parts counter is a number and a suggestion to buy something.
Two Colorado-specific notes. Altitude changes how an engine breathes, and a marginal sensor that would pass at sea level can trip codes here. And our emissions program means an active light is a hard fail, so if you are due for a test the light has to be genuinely fixed, not cleared the morning of.
Engine, transmission, ABS, body and emissions — not just the one light on the dash.
Fuel trims, sensor voltages and misfire counts while the engine is running, which is where the real answer lives.
Testing the actual circuit, so you replace the failed part rather than the one the code is named after.
Monitors, drive cycles and what has to happen before a retest will pass.
What failed, what it costs, and what can wait. Nothing done without approval.
Included, because the car is here anyway and a second problem is worth knowing about.
Say the code when you call, or show this page on your phone at the counter. Nothing to print.

Most vehicles. Regular price $165.00. Tax and shop supplies excluded. One coupon per invoice. Not good in combination with any other offer.
It is a fine starting point and we would rather you did it than ignored the light. What it cannot do is tell you which component actually failed. A lean code has at least four common causes at four different prices. The read is free because it is the easy five percent of the job.
Try not to. A flashing check engine light usually indicates an active misfire, which sends unburned fuel into the catalytic converter and can destroy it in a fairly short drive. A converter costs considerably more than a misfire. Call us at 303-795-2600.
Regular price is $165 and there is a $10 off coupon on our coupons page. That covers the computer scan, live data analysis, pinpoint testing and the 32 point inspection.
We can, and we generally will not without fixing the cause. Clearing a code erases the readiness monitors, which guarantees an emissions failure until enough drive cycles complete, and the fault comes back anyway. It is the one service where doing what is asked is the wrong answer.
No. In Colorado an illuminated check engine light is an automatic failure regardless of what the tailpipe reads. It also needs the readiness monitors set, which takes drive time after a repair, so leave yourself a few days before the deadline.
Get a real diagnosis rather than a guess. We will tell you exactly what failed and exactly what it costs before anything gets ordered.
