Diesel Truck Service in Littleton

We service diesel trucks for everything except the engine itself. Brakes, alignment, tires, oil, electrical, cooling and suspension — yes. Internal engine work — no, and we will tell you that before you drive over here.

A three quarter ton truck is harder on brakes, tires and front end components than anything else in the parking lot, and most of what a diesel actually needs has nothing to do with being a diesel. That is the work we do. What we do not do is open a Power Stroke, a Duramax or a Cummins — internal engine repair goes to a diesel specialist, and we would rather say that on this page than after you have made the drive.

Most of what a diesel truck needs is not diesel-specific. It is brakes, tires and front end, and it is heavier on all three.

What usually brings people in

  • Brakes on a heavy truckA loaded three quarter ton stops with a great deal more energy to get rid of, and pads and rotors wear accordingly. We measure in millimetres at all four corners and tell you the number.
  • It wanders or eats front tiresHeavier front axles and bigger tires make alignment matter more, not less, and a truck that is out of specification will destroy an expensive set of tires quietly.
  • Due for an oil changeA diesel takes far more oil than a car and a different filter, and many quick-lube places will not touch one. We will.
  • Charging or starting troubleTwo batteries, higher cranking demand and glow plug circuits. The electrical side of a diesel is very much our work.
  • Running hot while towingCooling systems on trucks that tow live a hard life on C470 and in the mountains. Worth checking before the trip, not after.
  • Injector, turbo or internal engine troubleThis is the part we do not do. We will tell you what we think it is and point you at a diesel specialist rather than take the job and learn on your truck.

Dakota Ridge Auto was incredibly efficient and friendly. I brought my car in for an oil change and the staff explained everything clearly while getting the job done quickly. I left feeling confident about the service and will definitely return for any future car maintenance.

A Ford F-250 Power Stroke on the lift at Dakota Ridge Auto in Littleton
Brakes, alignment, tires and maintenance on diesel trucks. Engine work goes to a specialist and we say so up front.

Here is the honest boundary. We service diesel trucks the same way we service everything else — brakes, alignment, tires, oil and filters, electrical, cooling, suspension and scheduled maintenance. What we do not do is internal engine repair on a diesel. No injectors, no turbochargers, no head work.

That is not us being modest. Diesel engine work is a specialty, the tooling is specific, and the shops that do it well do nothing else. Sending you to one of them costs us a job and saves you a bad outcome, which is the trade we would make every time.

Everything we do handle carries the same 48 month, 50,000 mile warranty as the rest of our work, and a diesel gets the same 32 point inspection as anything else that comes through the door.

What the job includes

Brakes

Measured in millimetres at all four corners. Heavier truck, faster wear, same honest number.

Alignment and tires

Where a misaligned truck quietly destroys an expensive set of tires.

Oil and filters

More oil, different filter, and a shop that will actually take the job.

Electrical and charging

Dual batteries, glow plugs and the starting problems that come with them.

Cooling and towing prep

Worth a look before the mountain trip rather than during it.

What we refer out

Internal engine repair — injectors, turbos, head work. We will tell you who to see.

Common questions

Do you work on diesel trucks?

Yes, for everything except the engine itself. Brakes, alignment, tires, oil changes, electrical, cooling, suspension and scheduled maintenance are all normal work for us on a Power Stroke, Duramax or Cummins.

Will you repair my diesel engine?

No. Internal engine repair on a diesel goes to a specialist and we will point you at one. That includes injectors, turbochargers and anything requiring the engine to come apart.

Can you do an oil change on a diesel?

Yes, and it is one of the more common reasons a diesel owner ends up here — a lot of quick-lube places will not take a truck that size or does not stock the filter. Bring it in.

Why do my truck brakes wear so fast?

Weight. A loaded three quarter ton carries a great deal more energy into every stop than a car does, and the pads absorb it. It is normal, it is worth measuring rather than guessing at, and it is cheaper to catch before the rotors go with them.

Do you do diesel emissions or DEF system work?

Talk to us about the specific fault. Some of it is squarely within what we do and some of it sits on the engine side of the line, and we would rather look at it than give you a blanket answer that turns out to be wrong.

Is diesel work covered by the 48 month warranty?

Everything we perform carries the same warranty as the rest of our work. Note that commercial and fleet use is capped at the NAPA Peace of Mind period rather than the full 48 months, and a lot of diesel trucks are working vehicles — we will tell you which applies to yours before you approve anything.

Diesel truck needing brakes, tires or an oil change?

Bring it in. If it turns out to be engine work we will tell you that too, and tell you where to take it.
